I think that 1 vs. 1 isn't really that great of a way to judge who's the better GW player. A truely valuable member of the team is one who supports the other party members, not someone who can "pwn any character 1 on 1". I mean I play a dedicated healing monk that would probably get her ass handed to her by a lvl 10 W/Mo, but does that make her non-officer material?

ya, i'll help you... chose the one that wants it the least.
by doing so you decrease you chances of not having a big headed officer, and increase your chances of having someone that will actually understand how to lead, and that will have no trouble in getting people to follow.
my advise is to just play with them both for a few days watching how the interact with others wether it be in your guild or not. afterwhich you'll know who to pick.

Choosing an officer is kind like going on a date...they may look good, sound good, etc, etc...but only after you've gotten to know that person over a period of time will you really know. (unless you're a really bad judge of character or you always choose the bad ones because of some past family issues...)

this is a great point. you can't just set who you want to be officer off who is the better person in battle, if you did there wouldn't be a monk officer because no offense i don't know of a monk that would be able to take out a ranger or a warrior or ... mostly any other class :P just byhimself but if u stick a warrior and a monk togeather 2v2 i would say chances are very good for the warrior and the monk too win that battle. plus picking officer means you also have to trust the person you can't just pick a person who you know nothing about they can just invite all these kids who He/She knows and ruin your guild completly, so keep in mind if you want too pick a good officer make it somebody you trust, possibly know, about as experianced as you or more and if too people are neck and neck flip a coin >.<

Seriously, you can't choose an officer just by how they PvP or how well they fight. The point is to get an officer is a person who is dependable, who can help people, who isn't so overmindingly immature, who can do well in PvP/GvG, and who can help the other guild members when they need help. Promoting an a member to become an officer just because they are a guild PvP fighter doesn't mean anything. They might have a big ego and might even force people out of the guild. Just to tell you, be wise on who your going to choose as an officer. A good fighter doesn't mean anything if they arn't can't cooperate with the other guild members. It will just cause a civil war within your guild. (Its from my point of view ^_^)
